Preston People: Cottam Candles

Cottam Candles - Preston People

We do a regular series on our social media called #PrestonPeople where we feature a local person, group, or business.

This time, we had the pleasure of chatting with Rebecca Sharples, the face behind Cottam Candles – your local lovely candle maker!

Read on to learn more about Becca & Cottam Candles…

Society1: Tell us a bit about you and what you do:

CC: My name is Becca, and I run a few businesses alongside working full time in software. My main business Cottam Candles makes bespoke and hand poured candles, melts, diffusers and eco gifts! I also have recently started a spoken word open mic night, called THE S WERD! The first was in November, and it will now be a regular occurrence.

Society1: What do you love about being based in Preston?

CC: I lived in Manchester until I was 19 – moving away I thought I’d never have such a rich artistic environment. But Preston far surpassed my expectations! Every corner there’s art – whether street murals, music, poetry or artisan businesses. The community spirit here is ridiculous and amazing

Society1: What is the best part of candle making?

CC: Honestly? Hearing happy feedback. When someone says they’re a Cottam Candles convert, or just the facial expression when they pick up a scent at a stall in person… the buzz never gets old!

Society1: What is your “go-to” local business in Preston?

CC:  Oo I have to shout out Secret Industies for prints and tees. Eighty80 for eco balloons. Plugs and Taps, Moorbrook and Winedown for booze and food. Cafe Bar for date night. Paws Pack for dog treats and dog walks. Celestial Curiosities for crystals. Omg I could go on forever!

Thanks for chatting to us, Becca! Be sure to follow Becca on social media to keep up with what she’s up to and where she’s popping up throughout the city!
