Preston People - Fika Digital
On this edition of #PrestonPeople, we caught up with the brilliant Tasmin Lofthouse, also known as Fika Digital.
As Fika digital, Tasmin is a psychology-led copywriter, content marketer and messaging strategist helping tech-focused B2B Brands. She’s also a Lancashire local!
Read on to learn more about Tasmin’s business, what she loves about living in Lancashire, and more.
1. Tell us a bit about you.
Hey, I’m Tasmin 👋! I’m a copywriting, content marketer, and messaging strategist.
By day, I run Fika Digital where I turn real audience experiences and insights into words that make tech-focused B2B brands, consultancies, and start ups stand out.
By night, I’m a dog mum who refuels by getting outdoors, reading books, and eating waaaay too much cake.
2. What do you love about being based in Lancashire?
The Ribble Valley and Forest of Bowland is easily best thing about Lancashire. We actually moved to Longridge a few years back just so we can be closer to the outdoors.
We’re spoilt with some incredible hikes and wild swims… and it’s thankfully a lot quieter than the Lake District!
3. What does Fika Digital do for businesses?
Fika Digital is my solo copywriting and content marketing studio. It’s where I get to geek out over messaging and help brands with their words. I blend audience insights, psychology, and conversion copywriting frameworks together to find the best possible words to move their target audience to take action.
Whether it’s writing website copy, managing organic social media, developing content strategies, or something else word-y, I’m in my element. I love helping businesses find the right words to fuel their authority and drive conversions.
4. What advice to you have for other people wearing lots of hats as a solopreneur/freelancer?
I’ve fallen into the “should” trap a few times throughout my business journey… thinking I should build an agency, hire a team, or niche down. The truth is there’s no single track to “success”. You get to make your own version of what a successful business looks like so do what makes you happy!
For me, that looks like wearing all the hats. I love the variety it brings. But, in my case, it tends to also come with a side of burnout. I guess my real advice for anyone who wears a lot of hats as a solopreneur would be to be better than me at creating work-life balance. I’ve not yet figured that one out yet!
5. What is your go-to local business?
I’m going to break the rules here, sorry…
Listing just one is hard so I’ll stay true to the name of Fika Digital and the deliciously sweet ethos behind it by sharing some of my favourite coffee and cake spots.
(FYI, in Sweden, “Fika” refers to taking time out from your day to slow down and connect with people over coffee and sweet treats)
Up first, I love Little Town Dairy. They have the best selection of cakes, and make a hearty mocha. I also love that every coffee comes with a tiny bite size of cake — great marketing that alwaaays winds up with my buying some cake to take home!
Next, it’s got to be Fellside Coffee, a crackin’ coffee van at Mrs Kirkham’s farm. The guy running it seriously knows his coffee. It’s easily the best cup of coffee in the Ribble Valley. And, again, there’s a great cake selection. I recommend the cornflake blondie… but also, maybe don’t get it, because then there’ll be none left for me.
Finally, an honourable mention for Gaia in Grimsargh. Another lovely local coffee spot who care about the quality and are always so welcoming. They stock Holy Grounds doughnuts so if I’m ever stopping by to grab a coffee, I’ll usually pick up a doughnut for my other half too!
