Preston People: Plug & Taps

We do a regular series on Instagram called #PrestonPeople where we feature a local person, group, or business. Recently we featured Ben Draycott, the manager of one of the best Craft Beer Bars in Preston – Plug & Taps.  Here is what he had to tell us about what he does!

Society1: Tell us a bit about you and what you do:

BD: Hello I’m Ben & I’m the manager of Plug & Taps, a bar/micro pub specialising in craft beers, real ales & world beers. We are locally owned & independent, & so are the majority of the beers we sell. My job mainly involves buying/selling the beer I want to drink & talking to people. It’s great.

Society1: What do you love about being in Preston?

BD: I’m from Preston & I’m proud of it. Like any place it has its flaws, but there is so much to be positive about. The thing I love most is the people. Plug & Taps is small but we have a huge number of friends & regulars who love & enjoy our pub. It’s a proper community hub. Everyone gets a friendly welcome & this is what makes Preston a great place to live & do business.

Society1: What makes Preston’s Beer Scene Special?

BD: Preston’s beer scene is incredible for the size of the city. The quality of the beer & the variety of the pubs is amazing. We have authentic Victorian pubs & micros all selling the best kept real ales. We have craft ale bars seeking out the newest most exciting craft beers from all over the place. All within walking distance of each other & all driven by some amazing publicans wanting to provide something special. These people are what makes it special, we work together & support each other’s businesses. The stronger we all are the better & more attractive the beer scene is.

Society1: What is your “go-to” local business in Preston?

BD: I’m going to cheat a little bit & namedrop several of my favourite pubs/bars (in no particular order). The Moorbrook for great beer & incredible pizza. Winckley Street Ale House is a top pub, which has just reopened under fantastic new ownership. The Black Horse is stunning inside with a great jukebox & beer. The Orchard is the best spot in town to sit outside & enjoy their guest food trucks with a beer & watch live music or the people passing by.

Thanks so much for sharing with us, Ben! We are huge fans of Plug & Taps, and often end up there after our monthly Society1 Socials.

Plu & Taps is open every day from 1pm and hosts a variety of events including a monthly quiz, tap takeovers, and a monthly bottle share. It is also the unofficial home of Preston Beer Girls.
