My First Year at Society1

By Kally Draycott, Coworking Space Co-ordinator & Host

Today marks one whole year of working at Society1 as Coworking Space Co-ordinator. I can’t quite believe it – it’s simultaneously feels like I’ve been here for a short time, but also for forever.

I absolutely adore being part of the S1 Community and really believe that our collection of members and friends are some of the best people Preston has to offer.

Here’s a list of my favourite things from this past year:

1. The Community

One of the best parts of working at a Community Hub such at Society1 is getting to know all the lovely people that I get to chat to on a daily basis. In the last year, I’ve been fortunate enough to get to know and befriend so many talented, interesting, and inspiring people that I never would have met if not for Society1. We’re lucky to have such a varied and diverse community at our space, and I’m so fond of the variety of conversations I get to have every day. I’ve met engineers, marketers, scientists, designers, solicitors, coaches, and so many more that I now have the pleasure calling my colleagues and friends. (Some people I still don’t really know what they do!)

2. Personal Development

Over the last year, I am so grateful to have been afforded to opportunity to grow, learn and better myself. I’ve been able to take courses, attend events, and was even able to attend a Social Media Strategy Session with our friends at Huddle. I’ve learned so much and I am so appreciative to work in an environment that encourages and nurtures growth and development.

3. Lots of Cool Things

I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to take part in so many cool things this past year. In-house, our monthly breakfast socials are my favourite time of the month. Plus our Skills Scrum and Table Talks events are such a good way to learn more and expand my knowledge on a variety of topics.

I’ve also had the opportunity to head further afield – with visits to our friends at Fraser House, the ability to attend cool events put on by our members, and more.

I’ve even been asked to be a guest speaker at a CWS monthly meet-up – I’ve always been a nervous speaker but I faced my fears and I’m so glad I did!

4. Loving My Job

Life really is so much easier when you like going to work and feel fulfilled by your job – and I’m one of the lucky people who can say that I have a job I enjoy.

I genuinely enjoy the work I do at Society1, and I am so passionate about all things Community. No two days are exactly the same, I feel valued and respected, and it’s so motivating to work in such a positive environment with so many lovely people.

Thanks for the past 365 days, Society1- can't wait for so many more!
