Society1 People: Lindsay Wright

Society1 People is a regular feature where we catch up with one of our members about what they have been up to lately and spotlight them and their business. It’s a great way to get to know who works at Society1 too.

Tell us a bit about you and your business?

According to my logo I’m a freelance writer, designer and legend! I create illustrations, branding and activity/educational based resources, and the legend part is just an added bonus really. The resources parts are things like how to guides, children’s activity sheets, community event packs, journals etc. I take themes and dreams and make them a reality and all whilst having a good brew, mildly amusing chat, and occasionally working from a van in a field.  As a former children’s and youth worker I LOVE working on projects with purpose. With a background in creating pieces for charities, faith based organisations, and community groups (as well as TV and print companies) I take big educational topics, big aims, big hopes, find the gems and create pieces that connect to your audience.

What was your driver to go freelance?

The big driver was falling back in love with creating pieces for people that make a positive difference. I have been creating resources, such as scavenger hunts, easter trails, and holiday clubs for children and youth workers for quite a few years, along with all the visuals and marketing for it, but in a corporate setting. Somewhere along the line I forgot what it was I love doing. I made the decision to leave my employed job with nothing else to go to because I could see I was mentally not in a great place. Through giving myself time to heal I rediscovered what it was I loved and decided to see if I could make a go of it as a freelancer. At the beginning it was just playing around because the cheeky little imposter syndrome told me I was being silly and no one would want me, but it turns out lots of people want to connect with their community, and I’m pretty good at helping them to do it through my visuals and engaging resources.

What’s your go to place when you want to switch off from work?

The Lake District, 100%. A nice walk outdoors will always do the trick, but if I want to fully switch off I need to be in the Lakes somewhere, whether it’s up a mountain or in a lake.
